Stephen D. Nimer, M.D.
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

Stephen D. Nimer, M.D. of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center serves as the chairman of Coronado's scientific advisory board for oncology. Dr. Nimer is chief of the hematology service and head of the division of hematologic oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center ("MSKCC"). Dr. Nimer is an expert in the treatment of adult hematologic malignancies (or cancers of the blood) including leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes ("MDS"). At MSKCC, he established the inpatient hematology service and the autologous stem cell transplantation program for hematologic malignancies. Dr. Nimer has published extensively on the topics of leukemia and MDS with almost 200 citations in the PubMed index covering a range of disciplines from basic science to applied clinical research. Dr. Nimer also runs a very active laboratory that received one of two awards given to U.S. investigators by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society as a Specialized Center of Research in myeloid malignancies. Board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology, Dr. Nimer received his medical degree from the University of Chicago School of Medicine, and completed his residency and fellowship at University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine.


Mark William Lowdell, BSc, MSc, Ph.D., FRCPath, MICR

Mark William Lowdell, BSc, MSc, Ph.D., FRCPath, MICR. is Director of Cellular Therapy and BioBanking at the Royal Free Hospital and UCL Medical School and is Senior Lecturer in Hematology at University College of London ("UCL"). He is an internationally renowned expert on clinical immunology and cellular therapy for cancer and a member of multiple international professional and scientific bodies and UK government advisory boards, and commercial advisory boards. He is the recipient in millions of dollars in grant awards and fellowships and is the author of several hundred scientific publications and patents. Dr. Lowdell built and manages the only laboratory in the UK accredited for the production of human cell therapies to full cGMP compliance, the facility which produced activated NK cells for Coronado's initial Phase 1 clinical trial in acute myeloid leukemia. Coronado's core technology for activating NK cells for the treatment of AML and other cancers such as multiple myeloma, prostate, breast, and colon, is derived from licensed patents and know-how from Dr. Lowdell's program at UCL. As an active consultant, he functions, in effect, as Coronado's chief technology officer.

John F. DiPersio, M.D., Ph.D.
Washington University in St. Louis

John F. DiPersio, M.D., Ph.D. of Washington University in St. Louis was recently appointed to Coronado's scientific advisory board. Dr. DiPersio will provide guidance to Coronado on matters of scientific relevance, including the licensing of new technologies and the development of portfolio assets. Dr. DiPersio is Chief, Division of Oncology, Deputy Director and Professor of Medicine in the Oncology Division, specifically, Bone Marrow Transplantation & Leukemia Section as well as the Stem Cell Biology Section at Washington University St. Louis. His laboratory focuses on the control of graft vs. host disease using gene therapy. Another research focus will be to identify specific genetic and epigenetic events associated with relapsed acute myeloid leukemia ("AML"). His team will focus on genetic events that may be involved in AML relapse using informative murine models of human AML, and also primary AML samples. His other clinical/translational interests include the biology of stem cell mobilization and other clinical and translational studies focus on clinical stem cell transplantation, leukemia and MDS clinical trials and therapy, as well as innovations in supportive care of leukemia and transplant patients. Board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology, Dr. DiPersio received his medical degree from the University of Rochester, and completed his residency at UT Southwestern and fellowship at University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine.

Jeffrey Miller, M.D.
Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota

Jeffrey Miller, M.D. serves as Associate Director, Experimental Therapeutics at the Masonic Cancer Center at the University of Minnesota and was recently appointed to Coronado's scientific advisory board. Dr. Miller will provide guidance to Coronado on matters of scientific relevance, including the licensing of new technologies and the development of portfolio assets. Dr. Miller's research interests include natural killer cell therapy to treat cancer. Board-certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology, Dr. Miller received his medical degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine, and completed his residency at the University of Iowa and fellowship at the University of Minnesota.

Jonathan Kolitz, M.D.
Monter Cancer Center of North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System.

Jonathan Kolitz, M.D. serves as the Director of the Leukemia Service at Monter Cancer Center of North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System. Dr. Kolitz is a graduate of Yale School of Medicine. After his internal medicine training at North Shore, he trained in hematology/oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is active in the CALGB and conducts clinical trials in leukemias and lymphomas. He has interests in the biological therapies of hematologic malignancies. He was recently the chair for CALGB trials in AML for patients under age 60. He had made several oral presentations at ASH and other meetings, representing data of the CALGB, and has chaired several oral sessions. Dr. Kolitz is a key advisor to Coronado and recently attended a Coronado scientific advisory board meeting.

Robert K. Stuart, M.D.
Medical University of South Carolina

Robert K. Stuart, M.D. is Professor of Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Stuart is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and undertook his Internal Medicine training at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He completed a Medical Oncology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center and a research fellowship in the Laboratory of Developmental Hematopoiesis at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before being appointed Assistant Professor of Oncology and Medicine at Johns Hopkins. As a member of the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center staff, he was an attending physician on the bone marrow transplant and acute leukemia services, and his laboratory research was funded by the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia Society of American and the National Cancer Institute. Later, he was promoted to Associate Professor of Oncology and Medicine at Johns Hopkins. The following year Dr. Stuart was named Professor of Medicine and founding Director of the Hematology/Oncology Division of the Medical University of South Carolina ("MUSC") where he established an accredited Hematology/Oncology fellowship training program. He played a key role in the development of the Ernest F. Hollings Cancer Center, which he served as Associate Director for Clinical Trials. He also established a cancer clinical trials program, and MUSC became an affiliate member of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) associated with Wake Forest University. Eventually, MUSC became a main member of the CALGB with Dr. Stuart as its Principal Investigator. Dr. Stuart was named Chairman of the Department of Oncology at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he directed over 70 physicians from 19 countries. During his tenure, the Department increased its inpatient discharges by 21% and its outpatient utilization by 41%, and all fellowship training programs were brought up to American Board standards. In 2001, Dr. Stuart returned to MUSC as Professor of Medicine in the Hematology/Oncology Division. Dr. Stuart is certified by the American Board of Medicine in Internal Medicine, Medical Oncology, and Hematology. He has authored or co-authored over 100 articles, abstracts, and book chapters in various areas of hematology and oncology. He is a founding director of the Aplastic Anemia & Myelodysplastic Syndrome Foundation and is a member of numerous medical and scientific societies. His current interests are hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, teaching, and clinical hematology and oncology.

Joel V. Weinstock, M.D.
Tufts New England Medical Center

Joel V. Weinstock, M.D. is Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology/Hepatology at Tufts New England Medical Center. He received his medical training at the University of Michigan. He was Chief of the Center for Digestive Disease at the University of Iowa prior coming to his appointment at Tufts. Dr. Weinstock is a world authority on inflammatory conditions of the intestine. His clinical specialty is in inflammatory bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. He has active research programs both in clinical studies related to inflammatory bowel disease as well as in basic mechanisms of immune regulation.

Dr. Stephen Hanauer
University of Chicago Medical Center

Dr. Stephen Hanauer is Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Chief, Section of Gastroenterology and Nutrition at the University of Chicago Medical Center. He is the past chair of the Immunology, Microbiology and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Section of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA). Dr. Hanauer is also a recipient of the AGA's Fiterman Award for Clinical Research and the AGA's Janssen Award for Clinical Excellence. Additionally, he has been named one of America's Top Doctors by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Dr. Hanauer previously served as a member and chair of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Gastrointestinal Drugs Advisory Committee. He currently served as chair of the International Organization for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, is currently Treasurer of the American College of Gastroenterology, and a member of the GI Specialty Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Hanauer has led or been involved in pivotal studies for aminosaliyclates, budesonide, thiopurines, methotrexate and biologics for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr. William Sandborn
Loma Linda University

Dr. William Sandborn completed medical school and an internal medicine residency at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda California. He completed a gastroenterology fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester Minnesota in 1993. From 1993-2010, he was on the faculty of the Mayo Clinic, rising to Professor of Medicine, Vice Chairman of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, and Associate Dean of Research for Intellectual Property and Industry Relations. In 2011 he became Professor of Clinical Medicine at the University of California San Diego and Director of the IBD Center and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology for the UC San Diego Health System. Dr. Sandborn has published over 393 peer reviewed articles including articles in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Lancet, JAMA, the Annals of Internal Medicine, and Gastroenterology. His research interests are clinical trials and clinical pharmacology related to inflammatory bowel disease.
